Keeping Them Home

a Montessori leaning Catholic home education for exceptional learners

As we begin our homeschool journey, this blog will be a place to share plans, joys, frustrations, and memories.  I am under no delusion that everything about homeschooling will be roses and sunshine but am hoping most days will find us peaceful.

Meet our family...

Mom

I am a stay at home mom of four, formerly an elementary school music teacher, and before that, music therapist in our local public school system.  I worked out of necessity when my first two were small and was able to leave my school job a few months before my third baby was born.

Dad

My husband works for our local public school system and moonlights as a choir director.  He never complains about working such long hours six days a week so that I can stay home with our children.

Munchie

Munchie is 9 and an amazing girl.  Brilliant and tenacious, she does whatever she sets her mind to and often spends hours creating or losing herself in a book.  She is frequently Mommy Jr., helping with her younger sibs.  Munchie attended a Montessori school from 2 1/2 until transitioning to public school for 1st grade.  Afteer testing through the public school system, she entered a self-contained gifted program in the 3rd grade.

Dooby

Dooby is 6 and lives life to the fullest.  He is probably the loudest person I know and feels everything to the depths of his soul.  His body is constantly in motion.  Dooby attended a Montessori school from 2 1/2 until transitioning to public school for kindergarten.  Dooby had two unexpected strokes a couple of weeks before beginning kindergarten and had a miraculous recovery.  He has undergone neuropsychological testing through a major children's hospital and now carries a twice exceptional label: gifted with ADHD combined type.

Brigitta

Brigitta is 2 and a spunky, spunky gal.  Whether roaring like a lion at the dinner table or performing beautiful arabesques in the living room her sparkle shines through.  She has a zest for life and does her best to keep up with her older sibs.

Macaroni

Macaroni is 4 months old and a gentle soul.  Generally quiet and observant, Macaroni is quick to flash his big sibs a smile and has quite the belly laugh should his collar bone be tickled by a playful Mommy.
